Thoughts

Mr Feeney was my biology teacher back in about 1973, at Coopers' Coborn school in Upminster. I literally looked up to him, as he was an intimidating presence with his thick black beard and uncompromising manner. Despite being a bit scared of him, I learnt my appreciation of the scientific method and rigour from him, which has influenced the rest of my life. The other reason for my admiration was seeing him arrive at school in his tomato red Datsun 240Z!

Gaz 300 So sad to hear this RIP Mike you will be missed in the Z community and my condolences to your family. AD240Z Extremely sad news. Like many I never met him- but whenever I called, he greeted me like a friend and never failed to help and solve my problems. Condolences to all those close to him. MaximG Mike you were a great a lovely fella and will be greatly missed. I will never forget coming around your house with Rob Hughes and being introduced to you. Whenever we or I turned up we were always greeted with a coffee and a chat. My car certainly wouldn’t be where it is today if it wasn’t for you and your knowledge. Steve if you can post up details of funeral arrangements it would be much appreciated. Rest in peace Mike red baron I have known and been friends with Mike for some forty years and was the best of the best. He will be lost but never forgotten. The Z World will not be the same without him. yellowz Can only echo what others have said which speaks for itself about Mike. One of the most patient, supportive and helpful people I have ever come into contact with, as like many others I never met Mike but spoke and wrote to on many occasions. RIP Mike.Thoughts are with his family and friends.RIP Mike. Farmer 52 This is really sad news. I have had quite a few parts off Mike and spoke to him numerous times on the phone, finally meeting him at an AGM a couple of years ago. Such a nice bloke. I know he had been ill for a few years but it's still a shock that he has passed. Rob Gaskin Nice words and lovely pictures Steve. This is very sad news, we have lost a huge 'character' and helpful member of the Club. He was also a big friend to many people especially Steve Burns and the Essex guys like Matt and John. I met Mike a few times either at HSCC race meetings, Santa Pod, his place or at committee meetings. He was also one of the first guys I spoke with over the 'phone when I joined in '96 - I can remember the call now, he was very pleasant and informative. He was a Top Man not only as a person but also as a Drag Racer: https://zclub.net/community/index.php?pages/drag-times/ We are all going to miss him enormously.

Rushinphil Being new to The Z Club, I never knew Mike or even spoke with him. However, having read hundreds of threads and posts he was clearly a much loved and respected man with an enormous amount of knowledge. A huge loss to the Z World. RIP Sir, and my sincere condolences to your family and friends Matt Bannister .racer This is difficult to write. I’ve lost a great friend. My teacher has left me. He was someone I had a huge respect for, he was the one I turned to for advise on many things. His huge intellect, meant he was always the Head Master in the room. Mike was there by my side when I was racing the 240 from 1999 to 2007. Always a calming voice when I was stressing just before a race. Always there with a smile if I did well or not. Helping me out with parts and lending me his truck to tow the car. He was always happy to see you or take a phone call just for a chat any time of the day. A lovely generous Man who only saw the good in people. I will miss him very much.RIP Mike Status Well put Matt, Of all the 30 plus years I knew mike I never once heard him complain about anything no matter Wot life threw at him, absolutely gutted ava300 RIP Mike..You will be greatly missed... Rob Gaskin Mike helped and sponsored Kevin Bristow too: Garaculas When i first bought my Z it had tons of stupid little pieces missing and Mike was happy to work with me over the phone to figures out what they were and help source the bits i needed, even if he didn’t have them in stock himself. Always knew who i was and asked how the car was going with such a friendly and calm manner. I was only today stripping the car down and making a list of parts to ask him about with my next order...
